Seventh- and eighth-graders on Dec. 9 and 10 took part in wellness days centered around a Vape Escape Challenge presented by the HFM Prevention Council.
The Vape Escape Challenge brought small groups of students together to explore an “escape room” set up in a classroom. In the room, the students completed a sequence of activities and puzzles and figured out clues that led them to discover the risks associated with vaping and develop skills to “escape the vape.”
Other activities during the day included sessions with Sheriff Rich Giardino and representatives from the State Police about internet safety, sexting and cyber-bullying, as well as Nancy Deumaga of the Mental Health Association about mindfulness and reducing stress. Students also participated in a character strengths workshop with S.P.A.R.R.K. Well-Being Coordinator Sandy Brower.
