NHS students are called on to uphold the core pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. NHS Vice-President, Kaylee Klymkow, introduced the pillar of Scholarship; NHS Secretary, Maya Rohling, introduced the pillar of Leadership; NHS Treasurer, Haiden Laird, introduced the pillar of Character; and NHS Member, Logan Farman, introduced the pillar of Service.

The ceremony also included a Recognition of Outstanding Teaching to Mr. Douglas Allen. Mr. Allen is in his 25th year teaching in the science department at Mayfield and in that time has helped countless students to discover the world of science and recognize their own interests within the field. His numerous classes and field trips have helped many find a personal connection to science and inspired them to be lifelong learners.

“Mr. Allen helped me decide that I want to pursue biology in my future career,” said NHS President, Leah Lawrence. “As I go into this new chapter of my life I will be eternally grateful for the lessons he has taught me.”
