Mayfield Central School inducted long-time staff members Kristine Goodemote and Lauren Lozier into its honorary Wall of Dedication in a special ceremony held on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the Jr/Sr High School auditorium.
The Wall of Dedication honors people who have made a significant contribution to the students of the Mayfield community. The ceremony took place in front of an audience of past and present staff members, students, parents, friends, family and community members.
Longtime Mayfield administrator and Wall of Dedication committee co-chair, Ernie Clapper, welcomed the crowd and spoke of the important role the inductees have taken on for so many years.
“As educators one of our main jobs is to help kids follow their dreams,” said Clapper. “And that’s what the Wall of Dedication is all about. I can’t think of any two people more deserving of this honor.”
Kristine Goodemote began her teaching career at Mayfield in 1987 as a special education teacher covering classes at both the Elementary and Jr/Sr High School. During her 36 year tenure at Mayfield she has held various positions within the school district, always remaining dedicated to the students and putting their well-being at the forefront of all she does.
“The students that I have worked with are real heroes because they have taught me so much and they have taken a chance on letting me try to help them,” said Goodemote. “I am truly thankful for my time at Mayfield.”
Goodemote is known in the school as a teacher who has dedicated endless hours of her time helping her students reach their goals and full potential. She stays after school for extra help, organizes clubs and committees, and spends time on nights and weekends to check in and address concerns with families.
Former Mayfield Elementary principal Abby North spoke of the positive impact Goodemote has had over the years.
“Her influence extends far beyond the classroom walls,” said North. “Benefitting not only individual students, but strengthening the fabric of the entire school community.”
Current Mayfield parent Erin Kindar spoke of Goodemote’s compassion and support for each student.
“She has a way of making each and every student feel special. As parents we know our childrens’ lives have been made better because of her involvement,” said Kindar.
Lauren Lozier began working at Mayfield as a school psychologist in 1990. Since then she has worked tirelessly to be a positive role model and advocate for all students in the Mayfield community.
Lozier demonstrates her commitment to the school each and everyday, always putting the needs of her students first and creating an environment where every student feels valued. She is known as a selfless worker who is ready to face a challenge with a smile on her face.
Mayfield Elementary teacher Mary Swart remarked on her influence and contributions extending far beyond her direct services.
“She has inspired countless students to engage, lead and give back to the community,” said Swart. “Today we celebrate more than a career; we celebrate kindness, humility and unwavering dedication to helping others.”
In her acceptance speech, Lozier acknowledged the support she has received over the years.
“I want everyone to know what an amazing faculty, staff, administration, board and community we have at Mayfield. I am inspired every day by what happens for students and families in this school,” said Lozier.
The Wall of Dedication is on display in the Jr/Sr High School Auditorium and recognizes members going back to the first induction in 2004. Past recipients have been chosen for making a significant contribution to the youth of the Mayfield community; for going above and beyond what is ordinary; for being a positive role model; and for demonstrating a high level of conscientiousness and caring for others.
