Class members are headed in many different directions, perhaps a four-year college, a two-year college, straignt into employment or traveling the world. The options are wide open for the Class of 2017. Click here to see what the 66 students are planning to do after graduation.

There were many recognitions and awards presented to Class of 2017 members at the senior awards assembly today. Check out the senior awards here.

Two students topped the class as valedictorian - Taylor Madeiros - and salutatorian - Emily Barker.

Also top achievers, these students were named as the top Honor Guard students: Molly Lambo, Tyler Capobianco, Harrison Harper, Carter Ivancic, Juleh Nikollaj, Aleshya Darling, Joshua Febbie, Drew Malatino, Morgan Lathrop, Mackenzie Andrews, Marissa DeCicco, Kylie Cotugno and Danny Ellis.

Taylor MadeirosTaylor Madeiros

Taylor has been involved in many activities including Key Club, National Honor Society, Drama Club and Masterminds Quiz Bowl. He was a student member of the district’s SPARRK character education committee for the past two years.

Representing HOBY in his sophomore year, Taylor went on to the HOBY World Leadership Seminar in Chicago the following summer. During his junior year he served as President of HOBY’s Area 4 and performed over 280 hours of community service.

Some of his community service includes volunteering as a summer rec counselor, delivering Thanksgiving meals, teaching Sunday school, helping with his father’s scholarship as well as activities through his school clubs. He’s also a varsity athlete with the boys soccer team and track and field team. He holds the school record as part of the track and field 4x800 relay team.

As a junior he was selected for the RPI Medal, Elmira College Key Award and the RIT Computing Medal. Most recently he was selected to represent Mayfield at the CASDA Scholar Recognition dinner nominating Mr. Thelin as the teacher who has most influenced his high school career.

This fall he will be attending Lafayette College where he earned $35,000 in grants and scholarships. With a cumulative high school average of 99.40, the Class of 2017 Valedictorian is Taylor Madeiros.


Emily BarkerEmily Barker

Emily has been an athlete with the cross-country running team, Nordic ski team and track and field team. She has served as captain for cross-country and track and field.

She’s also a competitor with the Masterminds Quiz Bowl team. As a freshman and sophomore she was involved in Mayfield’s Key Club and worked stage crew with our drama productions. She plays the trombone in both the high school band and jazz band. As a junior she was inducted into the National Honor Society.

She was also selected for the Clarkson Achievement Award as a junior. For her outstanding Regents exam scores she has earned the NYS Academic Excellence Award. Back in 8th grade she was selected for the AAUW Award for her talent in math and science.

That selection was foreboding in that this fall she will be majoring in mathematics at Stony Brook University where she was awarded a full tuition Presidential Scholarship. With a weighted average of 99.15, the Class of 2017 Salutatorian is Emily Barker.
