Mayfield senior Kelsey Meca today signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, where she will play basketball.
“Kelsey is an athlete that has exemplified what it means to be a successful high school student athlete,” Athletic Director Jon Caraco said. “She has always demonstrated the most important attributes of student athletes: hard work, athletic ability, academic achievement and perseverance, and this has been rewarded with the opportunity to play at the next level.”
In addition to basketball, Meca also has been a four-year varsity athlete in soccer and softball. She has served as team captain in all three sports and has earned all-league and team MVP honors in all three.
Meca’s notable accomplishments in basketball also include:
- Rookie of the Year in ninth grade.
- Second Team WAC All-Star, team offensive MVP and a spot in the Section 2 record books for scoring 40 3-pointers as a sophomore.
- A leadership award in her junior year (a pandemic-shortened season).
- Senior year recognition includes Team MVP, First Team WAC All-Star, another entry in the Section 2 record book with over 100 career 3-pointers.
Meca also has maintained high academic standards. She is ranked fourth in her class with an overall GPA of 99.089.
