Jr/Sr High School holds Third Quarter Character Awards

The Mayfield Jr/Sr High School held its third quarter Character Assembly on Wednesday, Apr. 9. Each department selected students they feel have displayed positive character traits during the third quarter of the school year.

The assembly featured special guest speaker and 2012 Mayfield graduate, Ian Sinda. Sinda is currently the Executive Chef at Boca Bistro in Saratoga Springs, NY. He discussed how his time at Mayfield shaped the person he is today by giving him a solid foundation and a space where he could establish lifelong friendships.

“I’m still friends with people I went to Mayfield Elementary School with,” said Sinda. “Some great relationships were formed for me here.”

Sinda talked about the importance of having a strong work ethic, applying yourself, and not being afraid to follow what calls you. He explained to students how he originally went to school for criminal justice but found it just didn’t feel right. It was his time working an average job washing dishes at Lanzi’s on the Lake that inspired him to want to work in a kitchen.

“Washing dishes was one of the hardest jobs I’ve done,” said Sinda. “But now I love what I do and I’m proud of my work. My favorite part of my job is interacting with the community and teaching others through cooking classes.”

The Character Assembly also recognized the hard work and dedication of some incredible faculty and staff members at the Jr/Sr High School.
