October Highlights

October is a very busy month for the Kindergarteners.  During the second week in October the kindergarteners will be learning about the letter Mm and words that begin with the /m/m sound, including mom.  All of the classes will be inviting moms to visit the school for lunch one day that week.  There will be no school on October 13th for Columbus Day.  The kindergarteners will be particpating in the school Halloween parade on October 31st.  Please check your child's folder for more information on each classes' Halloween festivities.

Fall is here and the weather is getting cooler.  The students go outside to the playground everyday that it is not raining.  Please make sure that your child comes to school each day with appropriate warm outside clothing.  We do not want any children to be cold outside during recess.

www.starfall.com is a great website to try at home with your child.  This easy website will help your child learn about letters and reading.

The kindergarteners have been very excited to see Painted Lady caterpillars arrive in each classroom.  The classes have discussed how the caterpillars will eat and become much bigger.  Then the caterpillars will crawl to the top of the container after about 10 days.  During this special time they will turn into butterflies inside the chrysalids they form.  After being inside the chrysalid for about 10 days the beautiful butterflies will emerge.

*** Reminder ***

If you plan on taking your child home with you after a school event (assembly, field trip or party), you must notify the office by 12:00 that day.  If the office does have a note or phone call from you by noon, your child will have to take the bus home.  Please remember to notify the office by 12:00 anytime you will be picking your child up from school.

Read 25

We are excited to be participating in the Read 25 Program this year.  Reading at home is a terrific way to help your child develop reading skills.  Read 25 is a program that encourages reading at home.  Each time you read a book at home with your child you can fill out a book banner sheet and return it to your child's teacher.  Our goal is to have 100% of the Kindergarteners reach the benchmarks and read 25 books by May so that they can all participate in the school rally at the end of the year.  This program is a terrific way to encourage reading for knowledge and enjoyment.

Benchmark Dates:

read 8 books by Nov. 1st

read 16 books by Feb. 1st

read a total of 25 books by May 1st

(You can download copies of the book banner on the left side of this website.)

Behavior expectations

Our school is stressing character education by encouraging good social behavior and citizenship.  In kindergarten we expect children to :

-   use good manners
-      share
-      show respect for self and others
-      demonstrate good listening skills
-      learn to develop good work habits individually and as a group

-      of course the golden rule- treat others as you would like to be treated
